  • Project Health Update – It’s not only about the weight

So since I last updated you I have lost 0.2 pounds. That’s right. Not even a pound. I am working hard at not getting discouraged as I’ve had more people comment on how I’ve lost weight in the past week than during this entire journey. I feel better and I feel stronger. And that my friends is what I am going to hold onto today.

When I last updated you, I said that I was looking for variety. And I have been very successful with that. I have started taking hot yoga classes from Bikram Yoga in Phoenix and Barre method classes from Karve Studio in Scottsdale. I have never been a flexible person or had a strong core so my body is in shock at this time. It is a completely different experience. But after 2 yoga classes and 3 barre classes, I actually feel the benefit of stretching and working your muscles in a different way. And I have no doubt why ballerinas are so strong and lean. I have a new found appreciation for ballerinas- no sissy stuff there I tell you. I have asked both instructors and owners to take some pictures and video of my experience and will do so when I come back from vacation the second week of August.

I also took a Zumba class in Prescott, AZ while vacationing at my sister’s house. It was so much fun and I found myself smiling a lot and laughing at myself a lot. I definitely need some latin blood because my hips wouldn’t move like the instructors. But it was fun and I am looking into where classes are offered here in Phoenix.

Rebecca and I also were invited to take 2 aerobics classes (step and body sculpt) from Jami, her former volleyball coach. Jami has an endless supply of energy and has a chiseled body. Her classes didn’t disappoint and my muscles are thanking/hating her right now. I signed Rebecca up for a membership with me at LA Fitness as she really has enjoyed the exercise classes and I’m excited at her interest in getting into good shape.

As far as eating, I have not cheated once. I have continued to eat clean and steer away from all things white- flour, sugar, etc. I feel good and I am holding onto that especially since my weight has not gone down. I have baked brussel sprouts, cut up mango to eat, made fresh salsa, and eaten lots of salmon. I’m happy so far with my progress.

I’m also going to sign up for my first 5K, 10K, and half marathon today. I almost feel like I have to do it in order to hold myself accountable and keep myself on track. I also am going to sign up for a Mountain bike race in October even though I don’t even have one yet. But that’s ok, I will. And again the variety is what is keeping me going. At this point, my goal is to complete the races and work as hard as I can. After completing the races, I will work on improving times, and then hopefully one day compete. I think friendly competition is a healthy thing, no matter your age.

Jeff and I will be traveling sans children for a week to the Northern Virginia/Washington D.C. area for my 20th high school reunion. I am beyond excited. Even though I will be on vacation, project health will continue. I am looking forward to continuing my Couch to 10K while walking/running among the monuments. How is that for scenery? Sure beats the desert in July I tell you.

So I sincerely hope that the next time I update you I will have more of a drop in weight but if not I will continue. I am clinging onto the fact that this is a lifestyle change. I am continuously working on learning new things and checking things off my list. And I plan on living a very long life. A very long and abundantly full life. Life is good.

If you are new to my site, welcome. Please go here to see how this crazy adventure began.

I go to my 20 year reunion this weekend too! As far as the weight loss, you must already know that as you loose fat and gain muscle, the number on the scale may not go down, and could even fluctuate, up or down. I usually guage my progress by how I feel, how my clothes fit, etc. As for Zumba, I know classes are everywhere. My good friend, Nina, teaches at Music Box Dance Studio, but it is in Peoria I think. I have wanted to check out her class for a while now. Have fun this weekend!

Thanks Lisa. I’ll check out Music Box Dance Studio. I live in Central Phoenix but I’m willing to travel for a great class. Right now I’m going to Scottsdale for my Barre classes. And I travel 30+ minutes to come to Scrapbooks Etc. :) Thanks for the encouragement. I know I am on the right track but it is nice to hear some cheer leading when it seems like a discouraging week on the scale. Well we leave Sunday for the reunion and are spending a week sight seeing without kids. Have fun and look forward to swapping stories.

I used to do Bikram and I LOVED it. I wonder if I could to it outside? I bet that Bikram with Ballet is a great combo. Keep it up, you are brilliant!! I am a big fan of Project Health!

Thanks Kerry. I really like both. I’ll be off for a week for vacation but I’m already looking forward to getting back at it. It’s strange to do hot yoga in Phoenix but it really does help stretch your muscles so much more. I’m glad you are enjoying project health. Stay tuned for a video in the next couple of weeks. It will be entertaining.

You like Bikram? I actually did an entire post about my negative hot yoga feelings!! You inspire me :)

And weight? Truly, it’s not about the weight. Measure yourself. Pay attention to how your clothes fit or how strong you feel.

I did P90X and lost 2 pounds, 1 total inch, but was SOLID. I have been slacking for 6 weeks and have lost 3 pounds and feel like mush! You are doing amazing!

My weight and body structure have been slow to change, but I think my attitude of life change has helped that though. I’ve heard rave reviews about P90X and Insanity. I’m up for anything to keep me on track. Thanks again for your encouragement and for stopping by.

Jenny, you have no idea how much we think alike! I’m so glad to hear of your great progress. My hubby and I took a kickboxing class at the Y. When it was over, about 30 women were lined up in the hall for the next class, which was Zumba. They had to pick up a “ticket” at the front desk because they are limited to 40 people in the class. They all looked so happy and excited to get in there. That’s next on our list. Well, MY list. :)
