  • December Daily – Days #6 – #9

Hello friends. Here are the next four days of December. With having to work 12-hour shifts and daylight savings, I haven’t had tons of light to work with. I’m all caught up though and continue to enjoy the process. This is a long post- not word heavy, just lots of photos.

    Day #6

I decided to highlight my chocolate peppermint cupcakes that I made for Ben’s 10th birthday. I included the recipe and also included the treats I plan on making this Christmas and Hanukah season. Baking is such a big part of December for me, so I’m glad I included it.

    Day #7

This layout is about Ben’s 10th birthday party at a trampoline park. I continue to love getting to know my sewing machine, as I used my zig zag stitch mad skills. I also used a circle punch to include a picture of my son jumping and sort of connect the 2 horizontal pictures.

I tend to use a lot of enlarged photos in my mini books and this was no exception. And in the last page, I captured one of those rare pictures with all my kids. I treasure these so much. I included their initials and an office tab that says “doesn’t get any better”.

    Day #8

Our family went to our zoo that is lit up with over 3.5 million lights, thus called Zoolights. It was so much fun going with a little one. Everything seems that much greater. I had my ISO at its highest at 6400 and took this picture standing in front of the biggest lit blue tree trying to get as much light as possible. My shutter speed was very slow so there was a little blur. But no flash. I’m loving all this learning with photography, sewing, and digital elements. My brain hurts but it’s kind of a good hurt, like after a great weight workout.

The digital element I added from Ali can be found here.

I included this digital element from Ali and stitched between the 3 pictures. Then I printed my journaling onto cardstock and cut them into strips. I then staggered them and stitched them onto a transparency. I used a green clip to hold the transparency onto the fabric.

    Day #9

I had a long day at work with some really sick patients. It caused me to reflect and ask myself if I am living intentionally. As a cancer survivor, I have struggled with survivor’s guilt, as I’m often faced with taking care of patients who don’t survive. I’m not sure why I was spared, but I am constantly reminded of being blessed and the importance of living intentionally. So this layout included a letter to myself.

This layout included more stitching and a flair button from Ormolu. Love, love those.

I am really learning a lot from the digital video tutorials from both Ali and Cathy. Please, try using photoshop and watch their videos. It will make your brain stretch and make you curse a tad. But then when the lightbulb finally goes off, it will make you smile. And then later, your kids will think you’re cool for at least 10 minutes.

The snowflakes included on this layout were taken from my table at my work Christmas party. I just added a couple of jeweled brads that I had in my stash.

My husband took this picture with the ISO at 6400 and there was again no light. It’s not the best picture, but I wanted to get a snapshot of our fun evening out with coworkers and friends after a long day at the hospital. It was a great night out. You can tell that these coworkers got to get their hair done. I was a tad jealous.

The digital element that I used from Ali can be found here. I love that I have started adding digital elements into my mini books and projects.

Well there you have it… four more days of a wonderful month of December. Let me know if I can answer any questions. If I don’t know the answer, I’ll try my best to find out!

    Blessings sweet friends – Jenny

You will enjoy Zoolights and Scottsdale. The weather is absolutely lovely right now. A little chilly- and downright cold the night we went. Make sure to bundle up!

I’m loving how the fabric, paper, digital elements, and sewing are all coming together. Very eclectic. Kind of the ultimate hybrid for me so far.

Found your post via Twitter. I love your use of fabric, paper, and digital elements, especially the December JOY page. How did you get the letters in joy to create a clipping mask on the photo?

I’m glad you found my site! The December Joy page is a complete digital element that I purchased through Designer’s Digitals. The element includes the clipping mask onto the photo. It is designed by Ali Edwards, who I refer to a bunch in the post. When adjusting your photo, just make sure that you leave enough room at the top so that the colors of the photo come through the Joy. It took a couple of times for me to get it, but when I did- well, I loved it!

Awesome and thanks for the info. I Love Ali! I will have go look through her Designer Digitals again, as I have clearly missed this one.

I have been slowly teaching myself how to use these types of things using photoshop. And just like you said, it takes a few tries (or sometimes more) but then I am in love.
