Around here (& Project Life Organizational Finds)

Around here, we are hurrying around to get to a 3 day swim meet with the girls and a basketball tournament for Ben.

Around here, we are surrounded by lots of family. My sister and family are here along with Jeff’s parents. We have a big cheering section ready for our little athletes.

Around here, Samantha is starting to talk so much more since having tubes put in her ears. Her preschool teacher said she talked more on Thursday than she has the entire year.

Around here, I’m just feeling good that I fixed a large spaghetti dinner for the whole crew. It felt great to be back in the kitchen. And even better that the kids inhaled their dinners.

Around here, Julie and I are exhausted from staying up late after finding some treasures on our craft and vintage shopping spree yesterday. After Julie organized her project life supplies, I was wanting a new system. See her organization here.

Project Life 2012 – Week #6

Project Life. Continue to love this project, but the last 2 weeks I’ve waited to do it all at once, and I am not a fan of the “all at once” process.

It feels rushed. Don’t get me wrong, I’m thrilled with it now, and just spent 5 minutes looking through it with Samantha. But I am really wanting to enjoy it more, than just trying to get something checked off my to do list. I want to soak it in a bit more.

So tomorrow after Sam’s surgery, I plan on working on this week’s pages. I’m really looking forward to spending smaller bursts of time on the project during the week. I’ll give you an update next week.

When I look back at this past week, I’m beyond grateful. This past week has been exciting, scary, and humbling. I’ve received many emails from people writing their lists, needing advice on how to overcome fears, and women who have lost their identity in their journey as wives and moms. And I’ve been doing A LOT of writing. I never imagined this and am just grateful today.

For those who didn’t see my video, I sent a video to Ellen. You can see that here. And no I haven’t heard, but I just know I will. I believe. :)

Loving that I started working with a hot air balloon crew in hopes that I will take my first flight within the next 4-6 weeks.

Continue to love adding fabric and stitching in my albums. Just gives it a homemade feel that I love.

Project Life Week 5 – 2012

Welcome to week #5. This project continues to make me smile. Week #5 was exciting and adventurous for our family so this project was just plain fun. Lots of smiling and good memories as pictures were being printed. Love how I have continued with some of my favorite trends, yet added something new.

Love office supplies (paper clips), grid journaling cards, and using different types of letters and numbers to include our M6

I’m continuing my love affair with arrows

My new discovery this week was instagram. {I know… where have I been?} I made 2 collages in photoshop with pictures from my work in the emergency department and one from Disney. Made them in less than 5 minutes each and I love how they help to tell a story. My username is jennymeyerson. Include your username in the comments so I can join along in your instagram adventure. Instagram addiction in my near future I’m guessing.

39 List – Make character & gratitude keys for the kids {Reinforcing positive behaviors}

As a mom of 4, I was finding it easy to say the word “No” quite often.

“No, you can’t watch a rated R movie.”

“No, you can’t shove Trix up your nose.”

“No, you can’t allow your little sister to ride her tricycle in the street.”

“No!” “No!” “No!”

I know my kids have grown tired of hearing that, so I started trying to consciously say “Yes” as much as possible. A little redirection and lots of teaching was involved, but I slowly am changing my parenting direction and seeing differences in our household.

One of the things that is helping me is by developing ways to reinforce the great behaviors and attributes that we see in our kids. Jeff and I know that it is our primary responsibility to raise confident, independent, and responsible children. We are not perfect parents, but we try our best.

So during our family breakfasts {which I will post next Friday}, we recognize our children for the positive things they did the past day, week, etc. They are presented with a key, which they hang on their door. Jeff and I tell them what we noticed about their behavior and try to be as specific as possible. It’s indeed a tad corny, but… it works!

Of course, at first we had some eye rolling. But now, I find them excited to see what key they (and their siblings) will receive.

***Note, if you are not a crafty person… you can still totally do this. Don’t let the examples scare you. That is entirely not the point of these keys. Remember that!***

I have keys from Pottery Barn and various vintage shops. I use extra journaling cards from my Project Life collection.

Project Life 2012 – Week #4

Week #4 of Project Life – I finished a little early since we left for California. I continue to finish each week and just smile. Love that feeling. A great reflection of the happenings of our family. Fewer pictures of the older 3 kids so I added some instagrams to the back of an insert.

This week was insane. I baked 289 cupcakes for our 1st annual Meyerson cupcake and lemonade stand. We were also busy shopping for clothes for our first family photo shoot and trip to the happiest place on Earth (where we are right now!). I’m so thankful that I was able to have a project that was manageable to finish before leaving on vacation. However, I love, love how this project sparks the creative side of my brain. I also feel blessed that I’m capturing our family story as I had grown tremendously tired of traditional scrapbooking. Too much time spent scrapping (and not living) and often the stories were left untold.

Project Life 2012 Week #3

After nearly 8 months of recording my family’s stories through using Project Life I have discovered my favorite part. Perhaps you would think it’s the various sizes of page protectors, the coordinated papers, or the endless inspiration of the #projectlife community on Twitter. Nope.

I love the “Life” part of Project Life. Yes, the “Project” itself is fun and let’s me create with my hands. But it’s the celebration of life that is my favorite. I have said it before and I will repeat myself because it’s worth repeating… anything that makes you feel more grateful as a person has great value. Anything that helps you focus on the blessings of life during difficult times is a treasure.

I can’t help finishing my project every week and just grinning. And now I must admit, I look at other’s albums very differently. At first it was all about ideas and sparking my imagination. It was about who was coming out with the next download. {Don’t get me wrong, I love the downloads :) }

Now, it’s about looking at other’s lives and celebrating with them. I love looking at relationships between siblings, friends, parents and children, and husbands and wives. I love seeing dinner tables, games, lived in homes, messy spaghetti faces, legos, fish kisses, and all the glorious Instagram food and shoes pictures.

I love seeing people capture ordinary life with their cameras and then adding their stories. What a timeless treasure. I feel a bond with people who are willing to take the time to record their stories of themselves and their families. But just know that I now spend more time celebrating your gift of living life to the fullest than your final pages themselves.

This has taken the pressure off of myself to keep up. It has relieved me to once again, just focus on my own style and most importantly, celebrate life. And I have an amazing, amazing life. That is what Project Life means to me.

Here are the pages to week #3:

Project Life 2012 Week #2

I’m really starting to love my Monday evenings. After I get the kids down to sleep, the house is quiet, and it’s time for me to assemble last week’s Project Life album. So Harry Potter and I had a date as I put this together. It was lovely.

I was curious if I would start getting bored with this project. That thought crept in my mind in November. I’m finding though that I get more excited as time goes on. I am more aware of my surroundings, relationships, and having an attitude of appreciation. So I don’t see Project Life not being a part of my life in the future. That is quite a statement for someone like me who likes variety in her life. I feel Project Life provides me with the variety I need as I can make it how I want it.

Here’s the layout for week #2. I took it out of the page protector in hopes that you can see it a little better and not see the glare.

Project Life 2012 Title Page and Week #1

2012 Title Page

After completing my December Daily journal, I missed working with fabric. So when I started doing my title page, a light bulb moment went off. This album is supposed to reflect me, so I thought “Why not?” So after a trip to my local scrapbook and fabric store, Etc.  and a little depletion of my bank account I came home with this. (more…)

Project Life 2011 Lessons Learned & Giveaway

So I started Project Life on May 9, 2011 after MaryAnn told me that it was the perfect way for me to capture my busy life as a full time nurse and mom of 4. After week 1, I was hooked.

I love the simplicity of it.

I love that my kids look through it more than any other scrapbook I have ever made.

And I love that each project life gives a snapshot of our family’s story. Not just my kid’s story.

Project Life Weeks #30-32

Hello friends! What an exciting month it has been in the Meyerson house. I am still living off the high of dancing in Washington D.C.! If you didn’t get a chance to watch this video, please do- it will be the best 2 minutes and 22 seconds of your day. I promise you will smile and get a good laugh! I’ve included my video in my Project Life this week.

As some of you know, I use a system called Project Life to not only document my blog activities but also my family life. It is a weekly system of documenting my journey through pictures and journaling all that life has to offer. Here are the last 3 weeks of this wonderful thing called life.
